Vita teaches that Earth’s living organisms—along with the oceans, atmosphere, and soil—form parts of a single, planet-sized superorganism called Gya. She is the living embodiment of all life on Earth, interconnected and interdependent.

Humans are like cells within Gya, endowed with both moral and practical responsibilities to care for the health of this greater body of life. For nearly four billion years, Gya has sustained a delicate balance, regulating Earth's thermal and chemical conditions to nurture an abundance of life.

But human activities have disrupted her equilibrium. Her temperature is rising, and her systems are faltering. Though Gya herself will endure, she is moving toward a hothouse state—a condition inhospitable to human life and to the rich diversity of animals and plants we know today. A mass extinction event, driven by human hands, is unfolding.

As living beings within Gya’s body, it is our sacred duty to restore her health. This means reviving ecosystems, drawing down excess atmospheric carbon, and protecting the intricate web of life that sustains us all.

Some may recognize Gya through an alternative spelling: G.A.I.A., as described in the Gaia Hypothesis and Gaia Theory by James Lovelock and Lyn Margulis. There are important distinctions between these concepts. Lovelock's Gaia suggests that life on Earth behaves in the manner of an organism. Vita’s Gya, however, declares that all life on Earth actually is an organism—a singular, living being.

While Lovelock's Gaia is rooted in scientific theory, Gya is a spiritual belief, a guiding presence at the heart of Vita Religion. Believing in Gya opens a pathway to the Verdant Age—a future where humanity thrives in harmony with nature, restoring the balance and beauty of life on Earth.
